Another Derwent Water

Derwent water from near the top of Lodore Falls. Playing with the tilt-shift mode on the camera.

Evening starts to fall on Derwent Water

The obligatory Lake District jetty looking out over the water as the evening slowly starts to appear shot.

picture of the week

About five hours after this picture was taken the ship you can see to the right, the Ocean Nova, was stuck on rocks and would remain stuck for 36 hours, some of that time being battered by hurricane force winds. It was an interesting wait to say the least, with the nearest ship being 12 hours from us.

Latrigg II

Latrigg fell 2: The Return – This time it’s personal!

A year on and a slight change to Derwent water compared with today’s Picture of the week – it’s not frozen.

The other difference being that I made it to the top of Latrigg fell this time, only 300m or so and not a great achievement but still better than last years feeble attempt in the snow.

Picture is from the summit. The walk continued back down to the river that was overflowing it’s banks and flowing fast after yesterday’s rain and finished with a wander back in to Keswick along the old railway line.

Well if i’d known it was a silver mine …

Post Industrial-Apocalyptic wasteland. Also known as the Glenridding route up to Sheffield Pike.

Walking Along

Just testing a new little widget I found. I’ve produced a couple of little books, and one rather larger book taking in photos from my (slightly limited) travels. Blurb is a great site, allowing you to produce your own books, with pretty much free reign over style and content. I’m still working on putting my Antarctic experience into one decent chunk of book with suitable text to go with the photos. However, that is somewhat stalled, partly as the sharp memories lose their edges and partly because I started off by writing too much for what I could keep up for the entire project without some decent time to sit down and find suitable inspiration again. Maybe another trip will provide that. Anonymous donations of large amounts of money always welcome to help fund that next holiday…

RPDL of the week

It was around this point  that we encountered a small knot of Rotarians who we’d slowly been passing here and there along the path. They were discussing the merits of continuing. It would seem the path ahead was too steep for them. They went through the trees and we later saw them while eating our lunch from the high vantage point at the end of the ridge.  They were half way down the hill and had gathered into a knot again discussing something while a couple of them admired the view, albeit looking in the wrong direction.
