Baa

A mini-post,

from the Daily Telegraph. How cool.

Rare self-rolling giant snow balls found in UK

and the article in the side bar ‘Snow stories: sheep have ‘forgotten how to cope with snow’ . Apparently if the sheep burrow down into a snowdrift to find food they will be fine. A bit like huge rabbits then.

It’s winter it’s supposed to snow…

There’s still snow on the ground. The papers are all still going on about how we grind to a holt with the slightest sight of a snowflake. I experienced that to some degree yesterday travelling home from work, the traffic moving freely though reasonably carefully. It then started to snow, which when driving can be a beautiful sight. Then after about a minute of the snow falling the traffic grinds to a halt. The road conditions hadn’t changed at all, the snow wasn’t sticking to the road, above about 20 mph the snow wasn’t even getting to the windscreen because it was being caught in the slipstream of the car and visibility was fine. However, because people then decided to slow right down the snow stopped doing this, stuck to the windscreen making it harder to drive even though we were now going slower, I was forced to inch home through the now falling snow, which still wasn’t sticking to the road, the driving conditions only changing because people had slowed right down.

Anyway, enough of the commute from work. Here’s a few snow related headlines links from around the UK press. Mostly telling us we are doomed.

BBC - What would the UK do if it snowed this much every year?
Yorkshire Post - Flashback: Yorkshire's coldest winters
Daily Telegraph - Blizzard warning as ministers order councils to cut grit usage
BBC - How different is the winter of 2010 from 1963?
Yorkshire Post - As the grit runs out, a Yorkshire council moves its salt stockpile to stop people stealing it

and to cheer you up after all the doom and gloom a couple of scenic pictures also culled from the net. Click on the picture to go to the relevant website.

snow mkIII

a very quick post, partly because i’m working and partly because you’d think i’d change topic once in a while. But here we are, more snow.

and another quick pic

There’s certainly been more snow than theĀ  christmas effort. and its been nice to watch it come down. By the end of the day it is lying about 15cm deep in the garden, which is hardly a record and i’m sure most of you have had more, but it’s a decent amount for here. Now just to figure out the best way to get into work tomorrow..

RPDL of the week

Daily would never work. I don’t have enough pictures. Weekly might.

Oh yes – I’ve hit upon a gimmick! not an original one by any means. but it’s a gimmick.

Hurrah.
